Yes — I offer therapy in Farsi. I'm Patty Fiore, a licensed marriage and family therapist (California LMFT #51545) with 20 years of experience. I work with adults, couples, and families in Farsi or English by secure video anywhere in California — Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, the Bay Area, and everywhere in between.
My family left Iran in 1986, during the war, and I grew up between Denmark, Toronto, and Los Angeles. I know what it is to live between two cultures and two languages, and I built my practice so that Persian-speaking clients don't have to translate themselves — their words or their world — to be understood.
Why therapy in your own language matters
Some things don't translate: the exact weight of a word your mother used, the expectations that come with family and reputation, the guilt of being far from aging parents, the knot in your stomach with every headline from Iran. In Farsi you can say these things the way you actually think them, and I understand the context without a paragraph of explanation. We can also move between Farsi and English freely — many of my clients do.
What I help with
- Anxiety and depression, including the quiet kind that looks like “doing fine” to everyone else
- Trauma and EMDR — old wounds, loss, and experiences from before or after immigration
- Couples and marriage, including intercultural marriages and couples where only one partner speaks Farsi
- Family conflict between generations — parents and adult children, in-laws, different expectations
- Immigration, identity, and belonging — for newer arrivals and for those born here
- Divorce and major life transitions
- Grief at a distance — mourning family you couldn't be with
How online sessions work
Sessions are 50 minutes over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, from wherever you're comfortable. Individual therapy is $250 per session; couples, family, and EMDR sessions are $280. I'm in-network with Optum and Cigna and provide superbills for other plans. We start with a free 15-minute phone call, in Farsi or English, so you can decide whether I'm the right fit. Questions people ask
Do you offer therapy in Farsi?
Yes. I am Persian, and sessions can be entirely in Farsi, entirely in English, or a mix of both, whichever lets you say what you mean.
Can I see you if I live outside Los Angeles?
Yes, anywhere in California. My practice is fully online. I am licensed in California, so I am not able to see clients who live in other states or countries.
Do you work with couples where only one partner speaks Farsi?
Yes. We usually work in English and switch to Farsi when it helps one partner say something precisely. Both partners always know what is being said.
Do you take insurance?
I am in-network with Optum and Cigna. For other plans I provide a superbill you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement; many PPO plans cover 50 to 80 percent after the deductible.
Is online therapy as effective as meeting in person?
For anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship work, research consistently finds video therapy as effective as in-person sessions. EMDR also works well over video with the right setup, which we go over in the first session.
How do I start?
Book a free 15-minute phone call, in Farsi or English. Tell me what is going on, ask me anything, and we will decide together whether I am the right fit.
