Emotion Focused Therapy is an approach to therapy treatment based on the premise that our emotions are a key to our identity. In fact our emotions often guide our decision making and when we are not aware of our emotions, we are unable to make good decisions.
The goal of Emotion Focused Therapy is not only to become more aware of ones emotions but to also regulate one’s emotions. My goal is to help you understand how to describe you feelings and to evaluate whether your emotions are helpful to you or not. We can then identify the source of unhelpful emotions and develop alternative ways to cope with situations that often elicit hurtful emotions.
Unlike other therapeutic approaches, Emotions Focused Therapy assumes that emotion can be a source of healing and works with specific emotions to increase adaptation.
